As the nights get darker, it gets colder and with half term, reduced sunlight and the run up to Christmas my guess is you’re getting busier, and prioritising your energy needs can fall to caffeine, quick snacks and quick wins.

Plus, this is also the time of year where anxiety, mood disorders and other emotional behaviours fully show themselves.

A significant factor on our emotional and mental health this time of year is obviously the weather but also as we slow down, we’re forced to sit with ourselves. We’re forced to sit with what we have or haven’t done this year, how we really feel about our life

As much as we like to think of the festive season as a happy time, for a lot of you it will bring up complicated emotions and reflect to you another year of ‘the same’.

This time of year, highlights how healthy we feel mentally and emotionally. It highlights how much room there is for growth and change but it can also sign post what healing work there is to be done.

Burnout often shows up in women most during this season as they are forced to confront themselves again – feeling unhappy, unfulfilled and unmotivated when their life is ‘great’ on paper and it makes no sense. So they push it down, crack on and ‘start again’ in January.

But what if burnout wasn’t just about being tired? What if burnout was the body’s way of screaming help me feel safe? What if it was the mind’s way of saying ‘you deserve more’? What if it was your soul’s way of saying ‘it’s time to change direction’?

Here’s some strange symptoms of Burnout for you:

  • Feeling disconnected from your life – a little meh and lost
  • Going round in a cycle or circles in an area of life – like your weight, business or bank balance
  • Chasing dopamine highs like another goal, a new vision board and relying on adrenaline and pressure to get you going only to end up giving up feeling deflated (this is the burn out cycle)
  • Low sex drive, pervasive anxiety about ‘nothing’, strange physical pain that is unexplained or any of the cluster type diagnosis – IBS, Fibromyalgia, CFS etc
