Lucy’s Monthly Blog | Are you a highly sensitive human?

You might be highly sensitive and not even realise it.

Not in a “this is your personality type” kind of way, but in the way you feel things, process things and respond to the world around you.

If you’ve ever been told you overthink, feel too much or take things too personally, this might not be something you need to fix. It might be something you need to understand.

So what does being highly sensitive actually look like?

It can look like replaying conversations in your head long after they’ve happened. It can look like noticing subtle shifts in someone’s energy and not being able to ignore them. It can look like lying in bed thinking about something you said earlier and wishing you’d said it differently.

It can also show up as needing more time to process things, because you don’t just “move on” you feel and work through what’s happened. … And this is usually the point where people have been told something is wrong. That they’re too much, too emotional, too sensitive or too in their head.

So the focus becomes trying to fix it. Trying to switch off, trying to stop overthinking, trying to “just let it go” But what if this isn’t something to fix?

Because being highly sensitive doesn’t mean something is wrong with you. It means your nervous system processes more, more information, more emotion and more detail.

You can’t just “be positive” when your body doesn’t feel it. You can’t just “let it go” when you’re still processing it. And you can’t just “switch off” when your system is still very much switched on.

This doesn’t just show up in one area of your life either.

It tends to influence how you think, how you feel and how you respond across the board. You might notice it in emotional eating, where food becomes a way to soothe or switch off. You might notice it in control, where trying to get things “right” helps you feel more settled. It often shows up in overthinking, where you analyse everything before you act.

And it can also show up in things like manifestation feeling frustrating, because you’re being asked to believe something that doesn’t feel true yet.

So where do you go from here?

Not by trying to become less sensitive, but by understanding how you work.

Because when you understand what’s happening, things begin to make more sense. And when things make sense, they become easier to work with rather than constantly feeling like something you need to fight against.

This isn’t about becoming someone different. It’s about learning how to work with the way you already are.
